Part 2

I answered the phone and it was the hospital. A woman asked if I could be there and ready in one hour, I think I screamed out YES before she finished the question. This was it, there was a bed for me at 5 pm ... this was really it.

My mind transitioned to a whole new place now ... I was about to have a baby! All of the sudden a flood of memories of Peyton's birth came back to me, unfortunately it was all of the bad ones! This was going to be a LONG night, and an amazing one!

We checked in, settled in, and had my Pitocine going by 7 pm. The doctor came in to break my water at 8:30 pm. My body responded very quickly and the contractions came on hard. Oh, a side note on the contractions, I had never felt REAL contractions before! Oh my my ... oi ... not what I expected! With Peyton I got my epidural too soon, so I did not feel any contractions, but I felt the whole delivery. I did not want to do that this time.

So this time I wanted to tough it out until the pain was unbearable. When it was finally unbearable I let the nurse know I needed my epidural right away ... then she told me she would start my fluids and that would take about 30 minutes ... WHAT!? It actually took longer and I was dying. I tried to focus on the purpose of the contractions, and that worked for awhile.

Finally the epidural came, it was quite the ordeal to get the needle in when I was having severe contractions every minute, and I had to be completely still for the needle. But we got it in and it worked fabulously! That pretty much ended the painful part of my whole child birthing experience ... not too bad!

My sister in law Crystal, my mom, Ryan and I were all just visiting. The nurse checked on me at about 11:00 and said to just relax the baby would probably be coming some time in the morning. She said to let her know if I was feeling any pressure. Cool! I was totally zen and having fun chatting with my family.

About 30 minutes later (11:30) I tell my mom and Crystal I feel like I have to go to the bathroom ... bad! They said to get the nurse because that is the "pressure" she was talking about. I felt silly calling her back in 30 minutes after she told me it would be in the morning! But my machine was beeping for more fluid so I had to call her anyways. When she came in I asked her if she could check me again.

She was sweet as sugar and chipper-ish-ly said yes! She paused for a second and said "Ok we are having a baby ... you are at 10". Then there were 5 nurses in my room talking about how they would deliver if the doctor could not get there in time! WHAT!?

My doctor got there in 5 minutes, I started pushing, after 3 contraction - 4 pushes each, and one snip ... we had baby Cohen! Oh and let me reiterate, I did not feel a bit of that, it was amazing! It sucked not feeling my legs until noon the next day though. Darn I could have 10 kids if they were all that easy! But no more deliveries like Peyton!

Welcome baby Cohen, we love you so much more than we thought possible!

You are amazing! I am glad you got to experience the latter part of your delivery pain-free.

And I remember the sinking feeling when they tell you it will be 30-45 minutes before you get your epidural. Umm.. hello don't they realize that you need it NOW!! lol

So glad he is here. He is adorable!

Epidurals are a miracle. =) Especially ones that work so well. I was paralyzed for hours too. I think I told you this, but I actually fell on the ground after trying to walk on my dead legs. LOL. I'm glad everything went so well.

a great story! I'm glad you were able to have a relatively pain-free experience :)
Labor is never fun, but it sounds like you handled it beautifully. It's just so wonderful that he's here.
