Last week while perusing through Lowes I saw this charming little bird feeder and seed and just HAD to get it. This has provided endless entertainment for the boy, they sit at the window and watch the birds come and go. Peyton has been enjoying counting the birds also! There are usually 3-4 birds perched on this feeder any given time. To keep it's charming effect I am not showing you all of the bird seed or bird dropping COVERING my patio underneath =)
Yet in other bird news, we have a guard bird in front of our house. We found her when she attacked my dear friend while coming over for a visit. She has baby eggs in the rocks by our tree, and she will guard them with her life. Beware when coming over!
She is a Killdeer {thank you miss Davi for identifying my momma bird}. I have been enjoying reading up on her. She is stunningly beautiful and fiercely protective of her eggs. I have been trying for over a week to get a better picture but she keeps attacking me {yes I am afraid of a momma bird}!
This little guy is daddy bird. He is standing watch with the momma. They take turns sitting on the eggs while the other takes off for food. I love watching their shift change, their parental instincts are astounding!
Now this is momma bird again, and she is chasing cars LOL There is really no way to describe the humor in seeing a mother bird the size of my hand ruffle up her feathers and chase off every car that comes by. She must really think she is something! I can just hear her little birdy chirps saying "Yeah, you stay away from my eggs, or I will have to run you off again!" LOL
To be completely honest I am not at all a bird person. I would NEVER have one in my home YUCK. But I am rather enjoying all of these birds outside my home. My boys and I have become birdwatchers of sorts, and it is fun. Watching birds OUTSIDE in their natural routine is very relaxing. The are such peaceful little creatures {when they are not guarding eggs}. We have a new nest in our front tree too ... I will keep you posted on whether we will have even more baby Diffee birds soon!

I love this post! We have killdeer too and I think they're hysterical! Have you noticed how the momma limps or acts like she has a broken wing when she runs off squalking? They do that so that the "predator" will go after them and leave the eggs alone. Makes me laugh everytime! :)
Those birds were crazy!! I have never heard of killdeer before. I hope no one gets hurt from your birds. ;) It was funny to see though.
Bird watching is fun! That is so funny how protective that Momma is! When we were in Idaho a few months ago, I discovered the Magpie species of birds and they are SO pretty! I wanted to bring one home with me, but knew he would be happier there! ;-) (And I certainly didn't want to care for him!)
